randomgirl asked: I am a defender for my high school’s varsity soccer team, and during our first two weeks of training we are learning a difficult new defensive strategy devised by our coach after watching Chelsea and the Italian National team.
In order to better understand how our formation works, I would like to be able to watch past games of both of these teams and observe their defenses. Any ideas for websites with film (or other methods) that I could use to better understand our new technique?
By the way, I would watch soccer on TV, but we only get three channels, none of which ever offer soccer. THANKS!
In case anyone is interested, the formation has four players in a kind of depressed bar shape, as in the ourside defenders are about 1 to 2 steps in front of the middle ones. Each player is 7 to 10 yards away from the other, a distance maintained throughout the entire time that the defense’s team is “on defense” (except when the opponent moves into the area around the 18, at which point the defenders can challenge the ball). When “on offense,” the scheme changes, focusing more on the supporting triangles I am familiar with. The key to our formation is to maintain the shape of the depressed bar and shift over to the ball in unison, especially when “on defense.”
Thanks for your answers!
